Is there an emergency med for depression?

Posted by Maxime on February 1, 2010, at 15:39:23

I am not doing well. Not well at all. I am suicidal to the point of counting out pills and wanting to take them all.

Is there anything that I could take to get me out of this spot? I see my pdoc on Friday and I would like to have some suggestions. How about Zyprexa, would that be good?

Your help is gratefully appreciated

Hey Maxi

Zyprexa will counteract some moods that are unpleasnt, it's just got some properites that improve the mood, yet it makes you want to lay down during the day. 20mg is good dose for agitation, it will keep you calm. Yet I don't know much if it will help with what your going through.

Lithium I know does help with suicidal conditions.

One thing I do know, I alway's say this...usally but dextroamphetamine alway's has helped with the "mood", it just improves the outlook, yet I can't say it's the best in this situation. Dexedrine...[what I mean] I know it's considered "speed" but, I don't know how but Improves alot of negative symptoms I have.

There is something called Hydroxizine [antihistimine, antianxiety] yet for some reason antihistimines have worsened depression for me, like diphendrine [misspelled] but I read that It is used to treat emotions, but I don't recommened it from me.

I'm trying to think, because until you see your doctor...

is there like visualation techinques that you can do? there are some things on youtube that I could offer...there like "sound" for the mood.

Here's some some:

Some of these are more religious, but maybe some music could help. Check the selection's that are linked to this.

I really hope you feel better, I feel really bad...right now, but I would like to help in someway I could.

Lorazepam is also a good choice, Alrazolam (xanax) which I don't know would be a good choice, it help's with mood but I don't know if in a case of depression it would help.

[[[[hugs]]]]

And rerember, sometimes I think that this life is like a race, or a marthaon, and sometimes there are things that cause it slow down, and extra help is needed. Let's both be here for eachother.

Well, anything you might try has to be something you have onhand. Yeah? So, what do you have onhand to choose from?

You were doing well for Christmas if I remember correctly? What changed? Is the Parnate dose lower or higher than then? Anything else stopped or started or changed?

Friday seems like a long way away but it's just a few more days. Hang in there! I don't know what you can do to use up some time, but do something, anything. Any kind of distraction you can muster to let the clockhands go around without you noticing will be good. For example, 15 minutes on the couch watching the clock can seem like 15 hours. 15 minutes walking, doing pushups, taking a bath, shower, changing the bedsheets, whatever...anything...that 15 minutes will go by a lot faster.

We all know from personal experiences this dark place doesn't just stay there with no end, so we need to somehow find a stepping stone to get us from here to there. As you noted, some fast acting med might be that stepping stone, and some distractions would be too.

If Zyprexa is something you have onhand, it is scientifically and anecdotally a reasonable option. I wonder what else you might have onhand to choose from?

Possibly ECT? Call your p-doc and tell him it's an emergency. Maybe you need to be hospitalized pronto. Don't give into your negative voice. Dump the pills down the toilet that you would do a suicide with.

Maxine,

I agree with Bulldog. Flush the pills or give them to someone to hold. You would do the same for a friend.

Call your doc and get a scrip--maybe for zyprexa. I've never taken it, but last year in a crisis, that's the med most suggested.

Love you!

Zyprexa is a quick med. (didn't work for me though).
I have to mention ECT. ECT is mostly for emergencies & quick action.

Actually if it a serious emergency, go the the er & they will admit you. Try the zyprexa & consider ect. (I know it's debatable, but it was a miracle for me)

A high dose of an anti-psychotic like zyprexa might help.

I've been calling the suicide hotline every night. So yes I am in danger, but I am doing something about it.

Things were going okay until my friend killed herself a week ago. Plus the fact that I can't get job. I feel like such a burden on society right now. So, so worthless. :(

I don't have any meds on hand except for thorazine and I don't think that will help me. Well, it might help with the anxiety I am feeling.

I was doing so well and then mood started to drop and then my friend killed herself. And I just got news tonight that another friend tried to kill herself. I am not coping very well with all of this.

My pdoc knows the situation. I don't know if I can give up my pills. They are like my security. I will try though.

I am scared that if I give the meds to someone that I will never get them back. You are probably thinking that's a good thing except I like having them around ... they comfort me to know that I have a way out if needed.

Thanks. I was thinking of Zyprexa too. I might call my pdoc tomorrow and ask him to prescribe to me ASAP.

Thanks RJ. Those links you provided were very helpful. I was able to able to relax. Too bad I couldn't project them on my bedroom wall when it's time to sleep. :) I really appreciated them.

Yes, two friends. The second one didn't succeed though. They are part of an ED support group online where I have been a member for 10 years. I know these women well.
