Does anyone have knowledge about the efficacy of Effexor in the treatment of OCD. I suffer from OCD along with bouts of major depression. I have tried Prozac, Paxil, and Luvox which each provided some relief. I am now taking Effexor 75 mg b.i.d.
Thanks for your help.

> Brandon>I tried the Effexor XR 75mg for about 3 weeks and the side effects were just too much to deal with. My sex drive and sexual dysfunction was only slightly, if any better than on any of the SSRI's. I also had a greater level of anxiety, my sleep was worse and too many side effects to tell if it was helping even as much as the SSRI's towards the OCD. If you read my post just above your's, I'm thinking about trying Serzone with the possibility of adding in Prozac - the SSRI that worked the best for me. Just too many side effects, especially of the sexual nature. Good luck and let me know if you know anything about the Serzone. Thanks.

> BrandonMy dr. tried me on Effexor for OCD, also. In the little time I was on it for, it did help me!! I was unable to tolerate it (drowsiness) thought, which has been my main problem with the SSRI's also, I'm very sensitive to drugs (other than stimulants, that is).
So, this probably would not be a problem for you. I believe effexor is used quite often to treat OCD, I understand that at low doses it acts very much like an ssri, but at higher doses it begins to effects norepinephrine? (not sure, some NT besiddes serotonin). READ responses by Toby regarding any OCD questions or antidepressants ?'s or side effects post or ?'s regarding sexual side effects or other side effects, etc. He talks about effexor and how it works. So, read his responses for this month and previous months you will get most if not all the info. you need.
