Amitriptyline HCI

Posted by Kimber on November 21, 1998, at 17:07:44

I'm looking for a response from anyone who has a child on anti-depressents. I have a 10 year old step-child who was placed on amitriptyline hci (50 mg per day) without any consultation from his father. He has not been diagnosed depressive and my concern is that he might be better off to explore other options prior to being medicated. His father and I are very involved in his life and have not noticed any symptoms of depression. Would a second opinion other than his peditrician be warranted?

I'll just mention that (so-called) anti-depressants are used for all sorts of things besides depression; find out why it was prescribed for your son. Otherwise, I have nothing to say except that I would share your concerns. Best of luck.

You need to find out what the Dx is and why the med is being taken. Amitriptyline is also used for bedwetting in children.
