with regard to the messages people have left, I have recently observed ECT's being preformed and strongly feel that this is a form of primitive medicine. There is no evidence that I have found to constitute the moral reasoning behind using ECT's, and that a lot of research should be carried out into the correlation between ECT and later Dementia.

I guess the moral argument would be that if people are aware of both the potential benefits and the potential risks, then they should be free to decide to do (or not to do) something.
As long as they're competent to make the decision, they won't be breaking the law, etc...
