i'm new to psychobabble, so please excuse me if my comments are repetititive. have been taking marplan 80 mg/day for 4 months. has eliminated my social phobia and has also decreased my "interpersonal sensitivity." apparently us social phobics are a little more likely to become irritated or annoyed - overly sensitive. some would refer to us as "high maintenance" types. unlike the other maoi's, ssri's, and snri's, marplan has achieved this amazing effect. i also don't feel as emotionally numb as on other AD's. there is some sexual dysfunction, but not as severe as with nardil or most ssri's. i will see my doc about an augmentation strategy to minimize this. also, no dry mouth, weight gain, or insomnia. dry mouth and insomia were major complaints i had with parnate. nardil was major weight gain and 100% anorgasmia, along with about 50% erectile dsyfunction.
would like to hear from others who have experience marplan (by the way, 80 mg was much more effective for me than 60 mg - there's not a linear therapeutic effect associated with dosage.
thanks for sharing any thoughts. new guy

I gained a lot of weight on nardil, so I had to stop taking it (it worked great, though). I want to try Marplan, but will I balloon up again?

This was a concern for me as well when I was considering whether to try Marplan. FWIW I haven't been experiencing the sugar cravings I had on Nardil, but I've been on it for less than a week and am only taking 30mg/day so far.
Have you had trouble losing the weight you gained on Nardil? How long have you been off it?
FWIW Parnate definitely doesn't cause weight gain.

I went from 200 (about right for me) to 230 on Nardil-- a big pot belly. I had chocolate and sugar cravings. I dropped back down to 215 when I stopped Nardil, without any real effort. But I am stuck at 215 now for several months despite lengthy daily workouts. (But I don't do any real dieting, though.)

Hi. No Marplan weight gain. This is very unlike Nardil or Parnate. It's somewhat activating, for me, and I have no dry mouth. Also, the initial sexual dysfunction (maybe 30% decrease) seems to be going away. I've been taking 60 mg for 2 months and am increasing to 80 mg/day. Again, the most interesting side effect is what's it done to increase my patience and almost eliminate any potential to become really irritated. I don't suffer from depression (at least haven't thought I do) and also wouldn't consider myself to be very impatient or irritable. Interesting . . . . . .
By the way, I'm increasing to 80 mg/day to try to achieve greater efficacy in treating my social phobia.
This is the end of the thread.
