Hi everyone,Ok, I have another question. I have recently been reading up on social phobia and anxiety, and many of other people's symptoms and experiences sound exactly like mine. I am starting to think that along with my depression that I might have social phobia as well (argghh!) So as we are all in search of the "perfect" cocktail, I am wondering about the drug neurontin. One of my pdocs (I have one at school and one at home) prescribed me to neurontin to take along with my prozac, which I was taking by itself because he told me that I had anxiety and depression. I never got that prescription filled and came home for the holidays and went to my other pdoc, who said that it was straight depression and gave me remeron.
So now I am taking Remeron (15mgs.) and Prozac (10mgs.) and I still feel that I am quite anxious, and slightly less depressed, but not as much as I would like to be. I was wondering if I should fill my prescription for the neurontin and give that a try, but I was wondering if I can take it with these other meds? I have also heard that it can be sedating, would that add to the sedating effects of the Remeron? (I do not feel that I could be much more sedated!) Do any of you chemistry people out there know if this would work? Thanks ahead of time and Happy New Year!

Neurontin was one I took for a form of neuralgia in my ear at one point. It is sedating, but has a short half life and people usually build up a tolerance to the sedating effect. What dose of Neurontin did he suggest. One of the nice things about Neurontin is that it is not broken down by your body, just eleminited like lithium. I've never taken Remeron, excellent drug, and probably a good combo with prozac. Since Neurontin has a mood stabilizing effect, it could work well with prozac. I would try Neurontin first, give it some time to work, a month or so, then the Remeron. You might be able to work all three in at the same time (I'm no doc, so check with one).
Best of luck and blessings,

Thanks,
Nancy

Nancy -I started Neurontin about two months ago for
mood swings and I've had good results at 900mg
per day. I'm also much better socially and have
been surprising myself in social situations which
I would have avoided before. I say give it a try.The first two weeks were kind of tough however. I
felt dizzy, kinda dumb, and just plain weird. But
this soon passed and eventually I noticed my moods
were much more stable. Although it was good for
sleep in the very beginning, this effect seems to
have worn off with the unpleasant side effects.Anyway, it can't really hurt to try!
Sean.

Nancy, I take Neurontin 900mgs with Parnate. I was on 3200mgs of Neurontin first for mood stabilization but it didn't do enough to help the depression so my pdoc lowered the dosage and added the Parnate. I don't think there would be any negative chemical interaction with your combo, but since Neurontin tends to be calming, it might be overkill with the sedative qualities of the Remeron. If you are not experiencing much sedation from Remeron, I say check with your Pdoc and give the Neurontin a try. The blurry vision you might experience in the beginning, go away after a few days.

> Hey nancy, I would definitely give neurontin a go for social phobia. I took a lot of different meds(and drugs) to combat depression and s.p. Finally, I got a great doc who put me on 150 Zoloft, 1200 Neurontin and 30 Buspar. This combo has worked great for me. The neur. has a soothing effect on the nervous system. I dont get overly excited and anxious in certain situations that bothered me before. I'm not perfect, but I feel a lot better. According to my psydoc it's an extremely safe and well tolerated drug. It's just starting to get some attention for anxiety disorders like ours. I take 600mg(2pills)when I wake up and 2 more about 6-8 hours later. You may experience some bowel problems. They can be eased with Citrucel. Anyways, I'd suggest it with zoloft or maybe paxil because that has worked for me. I've never tried Remeron and I've heard it's sedating. The ssris are sometimes beneficial for social phobia. It is for mine. good luck, bones

Nancy,
I take Celexa (which I've heard is similar to Prozac?)along with 1600 mg of Neurontin. The Neurontin did the trick for my anxiety. Give it a try. It's true about the side effects, but these went away for me in about a week.
Good luck!!
