Anxiety and Effexor

Posted by David on January 29, 2000, at 20:24:07

I am 30 something and work long hours in the technology industry. I found myself always anxious about work or where my life was heading. I began seeing a Psychiatrist and he suggested I try a minimal dose of Effexor as an experiment. I am now taking 37.5 mgs a day, half the usual starting dose. For the first week, my anxiety went away. Then over the next several weeks my anxiety increased a bit, but not to the level before the Effexor. I also started taking Wellbutrin to try to counteract the libido reduction issue. After a work induced stressful weekend, I asked my doctor about increasing the Effexor dose. He told me that usually only a very small dose of Effexor is needed to reduce anxiety and that increasing the dose might cause me to be even more anxious.

I am curious if anyone else is taking Effexor for general anxiety and what doseage they find most effective.

Hey, buddy!

I'm on Effexor XR and Prozac, for depression. The first thing I noticed about Effexor was the relief from major anxiety from the depression. It was great. The anorgasmia was quelled by Periactin, an antihistimine which blocks the effects of the Effexor for hours at a time, rather than all the time.

The Effexor was great for anxiety, from the first pill to the last one I took this morning. I am a believer.

Good luck to you, from another Geek
