I recently started Celexa, and find that taking half of my dose in the morning and half at night is the best way to reduce side effects, especially fatigue. Will this in any way diminish the potential effectiveness of the med? I'd welcome any thoughts or personal experiences with such an approach. Thanks in advance.

I tried dividing the dose with Celexa and see nothing wrong with that as my doctor even advised it. The only thing that happened was that it did not make a difference in the nervousness I experienced so I went to a much lower dose which still works. I find it to be good for depression.

David - If you get fewer side effects with this approach, I see no problem with twice daily dosing with Celexa. The only reason it is taken once daily is to improve compliance (it's easier to remember to take something once daily, rather than twice or three times daily). Once you reach a steady state blood level (in about 5 to 7 days) or after the side effects seem to disappear completely (2 weeks), you could go back to once daily dosing, if you wanted. The choice is yours. Good luck - Cam W.

What about just taking it all at bed-time. Effexor made me sleepy, so that's what I did. Made sure I got to sleep. Good luck.

I never got used to the headaches I got if I took the entire dose of celexa at night. Some of these side effects may never diminish completely over time.
I'm extremely susceptible to headaches and find that many AD's have exacerbated this symptom for me. Ironically, one symptom of my depression are headaches so it becomes difficult to tell if it's the depression or a side effect of an AD. For me usually an AD headache is much more severe and is the direct result of a new AD trial.
I continue to take 10-20 mg celexa in the morning and 20 mg at night with no side effects. And Celexa is proving to be a good AD for me, along with Wellbutrin and Neurontin.
