Dear harryb, glad to have you back ! Bearing in my mind that I'm a total ignoramus in the field, I wondered if anyone has suggested E.C.T.? You do sound so depressed, and unhappy with the meds. I read up about it when I was offered it as an alternative because I didn't react to any of the ADs. I was interested in having it done but I just can't afford it at the moment. I know E.C.T. has a bad press but it seems to be a case of the baby having been thrown out with the bathwater and it is still a useful option in cases of severe depression.
BTW. I found it amusing that you are worried about smoking with all those guns lying around. If that was a totally inappropriate comment I'm sorry .At least now I have an excuse for my tactlessness; my newly discovered ADD. The trouble is that since I've become aware of it, I'm finding it difficult to sort out when a comment is appropriate or not. My recommendation for a film to cheer you up is Some Like It Hot. Bye, lots of love, Jan

ECT? No way! One doc was a strong proponent of that
a few years ago. I ditched him.The smoking thing. I quit over a year ago after
30yrs. It was a difficult thing to do & I was
proud of myself for doing it. A positive action,
you see.Later

Hi Harry I agree with you about the ECT although I have seen it help some people. Have you thought about trying TMS (the magnet therapy).
I considered it last fall but then things got better. I never would have thought I would have considered even that but somehow it didn't seem as bad as ECT. You don't have to be unconscious or anything. I read about it on DR. Ivan's site and they had some places listed that were using it. It wasn't a complete list though because a medical school near here is also using it and it wasn't listed. Here you didn't even have to pay for it because it was a research project. You did have to get off all the meds first though. Just a thought.Do you think you could get nicotine patches or gum and ease off the cigarettes? Harry, I hate giving advice and I'm no good at all at giving pep talks, but you've got to keep trying. Isn't there someone you trust somewhere that can help you come up with some alternatives? If you don't feel well enough to go to day treatment in the morning then go back to the hospital and demand your money back. (just kidding) Really though you should think about going back if you're not able to function at all or if you're feeling -well, you know, that feeling.
Buy your cat some treats, this hasn't been easy on her either. You sound like you're really feeling bad-I hope it gets better soon. A.

Hi harry --
I'm just grasping at straws here, but is there some direction of treatment that's tangential or perpendicular or totally skewed to what you have tried?
I can't remember any of the particulars of what you have done, but my recent posts on other threads just make me think about how I was stuck on the SSRI merri-go-round, since they're so popular these days, for a few years before dumb luck got me onto the meds that are helping me now.
Maybe it's time to zig instead of zagging?
hang in there,
bob

Thanks for the advice. I did ask my doc about
adding a stimulant to my Celexa, Lithium, and
Klonopin. He wasn't too keen on the idea. I may
try another doc because I think a stim would
help.I had a fill-in doc a few weeks ago who said
he does add stims but since he was just seeing
me one time, he would not prescribe. He did say
he has some of his patients take a stim an hour
before getting up in the am. Everything ready on
the nightstand. Sounds like a good idea.Right now I'm still down. Just woke up & think I'll
crawl back into bed.

Hi, Harry. Sorry I haven't posted recently. It occurs to me that you just started a new cocktail of meds not too long ago, and maybe you need a bit more time to see how these work, before switching meds or doctors, unless you really don't like you doctor. Remind me, what are you taking?
BTW, what I tried to write in response to your post a few days ago (but for some reason I was blocked!) was : Take it one day at a time.
This is the end of the thread.
