Tremors in Toronto

Posted by bones on April 25, 2000, at 17:53:04

I've just had another bad relapse of my OCD. (Seems to happen every 5 years.) I'm taking 75 mg./night (one dose) of clomipramine. It works very well for my OCD, however, I also have social anxiety ... I find the clomipramine makes me quite nervous and tremorous. (NOT GOOD!!)

Do any of you have any suggestions on how I can decrease this nervousness??

Thanks guys!!

James here....

For the physical signs of nervouness try Inderal, a beta blocker. I use it because I have ADD and my hand shake from time to time.

Dear Bones, I sympathize with your relapse. This past week, I also had a relapse (mine consists of recurring obsessions and inability to handle extreme tension except by compulsions). You might want to ask your pdoc about something like Serzone to reduce the nervousness and tremorousness of Anafranil (I've never taken that before, but have heard scare stories; has it helped you in the past?). I took Serzone for a few months and it didn't help reduce OCD but it really helped with social anxiety, for me. I'm always interested in what helps with OCD. I've tried Prozac, Luvox, and Zoloft (all reduce/delay/eliminate sexual desire/arousal/orgasm, for me). Now I take Effexor-XR 375 mg/day, which is great except for the recent relapse (probably stress-related) and inability to sleep right. Best of wishes to you and I hope things get better soon!

Hi, Bones -

As I've said before, Klonopin (if it's not contra-indicated with your AD) has helped so much with tremulousness, which is the most troubling physical symptom of my social anxiety. In fact, Klonopin plus Inderal (or possibly Pindolol) could be a great combo.

Wishing you a speedy improvement -
Rick

hi bones, I posted to you when I first came here to psychobabble i believe last summer or fall. I hope your fine (other than your OCD).

I'm doing well, in fact, feeling very stable and non-depressed (thanks to lithium). My mother said there was great weather in Toronto today.
Enjoy it, and good luck with your OCD. Janice

I hope Julie Wrighter has helped you!

Hi, I am on 20mg clomipramine, I feel drowsy, almost too much, I had clumsiness as in accidentally knocking things over when I was anxious (I didn't tell this to my psychiatrist). I am hoping that this medication will help. I have been taking this med for 5 weeks. So far, I have taken 10mg for the first 3 weeks and then 20mg for the past 2 weeks. Coincidentally, after having increased the dose to 20mg, either I'm crazy or I've been noticing that I'm drowsier than ever.

Dubya, can you tell me why yr pdoc has you on such a TINY dose of Clomipramine (esp. for OCD)?

The STARTING dose for obsessive behaviour is 25 mg, moving SLOWLY upwards towards the 100-150mg range. Even for simple depression the lowest rec'd dose is 30mg.

Max dose is 250mg (300 for tough cases like mine).

Clom. felt a v. 'powerful' drug when I took it & it's not surprising it's effecting yr co-ordination etc. However the side-effects do abate somewhat; I know this because I was on 15x the dose you are on, for some time, and I found it tolerable.

Jah.
