Anyone Tried Neurontin

Posted by tina on May 3, 2000, at 14:06:01

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has experience with Neurontin? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Tina,
I take Neurontin for aches and pains, but I've noticed that it also helps with my anxiety. I believe that it is used predominately by people who have epilectic (sp?) seizures. Has it been recommended to you by someone?

If you have specific questions about the drug, Cam W. is the person to ask, he is definitely the expert.

Peace,
Greg

Gloria,
I've never taken it for a panic attack, I always run for the Xanax. It's worked pretty well for some pretty heavy anxiety. But I'll try it next time and let you know.

Cam,
Can you give us your expert opinion about using Neurontin for anxiety or panic?

Greg

Greg - We don't use gabapentin much for panic or anxiety. We use it to augment mood stabilizers in bipolar disorder (only some success) and in some pain disorders (seems to work in some people). Remember, the maximum dose absorbed at one time is 600mg (So, if you are taking 3000mg, you have to take 600mg five times daily). This is due to a saturable absorption. - Cam W.

I take Neurontin along with Celexa and Wellbutrin.

I only take 100 in the am and 200 at night. I think it evens me out and at night really lets me sleep well.

The Celexa (30 mg) is for my depression, the Wellbutrin gives me some energy (150 mg) and the Neurontin helps smooth things out.

I think I read somewhere that Neurontin could make AD's work better and my doctor agreed with prescribing it.

I'm not exactly sure how much it is doing but once something works you can't change things for fear the whole formula will fail.

Neurontin - Sure, deal me in....

As others have observed, it is used for certain types of pain, seizure disorders, and mood stabalization; I am taking 1200mg to control mood swings. That said, it does seem to sooth the pain of "raw nerve endings" in your brain - i.e., calm you down. But I've never heard of it being prescribed just for anxiety relief - that would really be psychic overkill, IMHO

Only side effects seem to be clumsiness; esp. the first few weeks and when my dose was increased, and possible memory loss - no big deal, really, as most of the past is worth forgetting anyway, if only to make room for all the possibly neat stuff in the present and future....

Hope that helps
FP
