I have just started taking Celexa and am curious - has anyone experienced weight loss? The possible side effects list "weight loss more often than weight gain." It seems that weight gain is much more prevalent per the postings here. Thanks.

Hey Lyn--I've gained 5 lbs in the last 3 weeks being on celexa so I guess I'm no help to ya. Wouldn't mind weight LOSS as a side effect though.

Lyn, I take Wellbutrin *and* Celexa, so my experience may be different from yours. I found with the Celexa that when I was only on 20mgs. my appetite was the same(pretty big!), but now that I have gone to 40mgs. I have felt that my appetite is getting smaller, which leaves me hopeful of being able to lose some weight. Good luck! CarolAnn

Does taking the Celexa with the Wellbutrin seem to alleviate that irritated feeling that some people (including me) seem to get when taking the Wellbutrin alone (assuming the you've ever taken the Well by itself)? My doc and I are considering adding the Celexa to my regimen. What dose of the Well do you take? I'mm currently about 25lbs overweight (all stomach), so my appetite is certainly not in jeopardy, although I'm sure I'll look terrible in my bathing suit this summer... :^)Greg

Lyn- The first several weeks I had nausea from
the Celexa, great appetite suppressant. The nausea
has been gone now for about a month. I have not
gained, have lost 4 lbs. However I began taking
Ritalin several weeks ago, which may be a factor.
I've also been walking and using a rower at the
gym.My 'gut' (excuse the pun) feeling is that, for me,
Celexa alone would not cause weight gain.Question for the posters that use a combo of Celexa
& Wellbutrin-
Does the Wellbutrin resolve sexual dysfunction
caused by the Celexa? (I'm half embarressed to keep
bringing this up = :) but, hey, orgasms are great
stress relievers. I want an orgasm, please).

harry, oddly enough, when I was only on 20mgs. Celexa, the Wellbutrin was not really helpful sex-wise. But since I bumped up to 40mgs., both my drive and my response have improved. I don't know if it is the combo of Wellbutrin and the *40mgs* that made the difference, or just the move up to 40mgs Celexa that is the key. You may want to try either or both of these options. Thanks CarolAnn- I'm taking 20mg Celexa. A while
back, while I was still experiencing nausea, the
doc upped my dosage to 40mg but 40mg caused a major
increase of the nausea so I went back to 20mg.I see my doc on Mon. and I'll talk to her about
trying 40mg again and maybe a trial of Wellbutrin.

This is the second time I've been on meds - three years ago I took Paxil 20mgs with no weight gain or any other side effect at first. I felt great after the drug took effect -- I was my old self with one exception -- the inability to orgasm.
After several months I stopped taking Paxil and the depression didn't return until a few months ago. My doc prescribed Celexa 20 mgs. and I'm hoping it will work as well as Paxil, without affecting me sexually or causing me to gain weight. The depression itself has brought on significant weight gain.
When I told my new doctor about the anorgasm caused by Paxil, he said that perhaps they should have increased the dose to 40mgs. Has anyone experienced fewer side effects on higher dosages?

WEIGHT GAIN!!! I've been on celexa for a year and a half. I was on 20mg for 1/2 the time and 30 mg for the rest. I have gained about 50 lbs and i'm a 5'3 female!! I already had a problem with weight, but never gained more than 5-10 lbs in a whole year! I'm starting to taper off, enough of this!!

I've been on Wellbutrin SR since last August - 150mg a.m. Early last fall I added the early afternoon dose, but it made me so 'figity'(but didn't cause irritability) that I dropped back to just the a.m. does. My weight, albiet higher than it should have been, did maintain. My psychiatrist added celexa in January - never could take more than 20 mg as it made me so sleepy - and I gained 35 pounds in 2 months.
In early March we switched from Celexa to Neurontin ( and bouts of irritability followed - subsequently disappearing when the med was discontinued), along with the 150 of Well SR - added another 20 lbs.
Now it's back to just Wellbutrin - 150 mg a.m. and early p.m. - no irritability, no 'fidigits', not much help either. Libido is still a problem, but then other medical conditions resulting in a major - uncorrectable at this time - hormone imbalance may be the causal factor in this department.
