Effexor for eight months now

Posted by Jeffrey on June 11, 2000, at 23:44:05

Hey all,
I've been taking effexor for eight months now. I am a whole new person, much more outgoing and much less shy than I used to be. This medication has given me the ability to speak aound new people and even be the life of the party around people I know. The one bad thing is that I suffer from a severe lack of desire for sex. not only does my wife not like this but it worries me to look at naked girls or things that would normally make a guy look twice and all I feel is a small twitch of interest. My doctor gave me some new med to take with the effexor but it put me to sleep almost 24hrs a day. Anyone out there have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem while still taking the effexor? I would greatly appreciate some advice. Thanks

Jeff

Sexual dysfunction - dido! This is no lie, I could have sex for five hours and not ejacutlate (my girlfriend called me a machine). I take 100mg of trazadone at bedtime to sleep. When I do not take the trazadone, my libido becomes even more diminished. Just three days ago I added wellbutrin and immediately I noticed an improvement in my libido. The ADs that do not impede on my libido have not worked for me. I have now decided to stick with the effexor and treat the sexual dysfunction secondary to the depression - I would much rather have the sex drive of a women then be depressed and out of commision. Good luck!

Andre, what do you mean, you'd rather have the sex drive of a "woman"? Women have sex drives too (when not on SSRI's, at least!) ;)

Hi Jeff,

I hear that remeron will help counteract the sex
thing. You will experience some tireness the first week. You take it at night. The doctor
probably will begin to increase the doseage after a week because the higher the doseage, the less tired it makes you. I didn't have a negative experience, just a real good night sleep.

I am happy to hear of your positive experience with the effexor.

In the meantime, be patient andd remember, there's always romance...

Sassy
