Effexor

Posted by Jerri on June 29, 2000, at 20:41:02

I have been taking three tabs of Effexor (112.5) for 2 weeks. the doc has raised it to two 75 mg tabs for 1 week, then increase to three 75 mg tabs after that. My question is what is XR and regular?? How do I know if I'm taking XR or regular?? Oh, and I take 100 mg of Trazodone at night to sleep.

Jerri,

XR stands for Extended Release (Timed Release Capsules), the XR is longer acting so they don't need to be taken as often. The XR should be marked on the RX bottle and the capsules themselves I believe. It's been quite a while since I've taken them though. Hope this helps.

Jerri,

the regular Effexor is a tablet, in the shape of a shield. The effexor xr is a capsule.
