Confidence Pill !!

Posted by rgreene on July 8, 2000, at 23:52:04

I love to hear suggestions about a medication to help boost my confidence in social situations. Here's some background:
I've been shy all my life. Friends call me quiet. I'm easily intimidated by others. I blush easily. I'm uneasy around the opposite sex.
Years ago, I started taking Paxil after the death of a family member. I wasn't clinically depressed, but got some free sample and thought it couldn't hurt. Liking the initial feeling, I got more. One to two months later, I found myself outgoing, uninhibited, confident, and never blushed. For those who have read Listen To Prozac, I was indeed "better than well". Suddenly, I could approach people and situations with confidence for the first time in my life!Unfortunately, in less than a year I experienced the seemingly inevitable poop-out.
Getting off Paxil was hell (another topic altogether), but here am I looking for a new Confidence Pill. For those looking for a diagnosis, I do not fit criteria for any mental illness, although I come closest to social phobia and/or dysthymia if I had to give myself a label. I'm reluctant to try another SSRI because it will probably just poop-out.
It's hard to be back to my "old self" having experienced the other me...any advice/suggestions for a new Confidence Pill?

If you are willing to try Paxil again, look over this site's Tips section under the search term 'SSRI poop out' for lots of great ideas on how tho get the Paxil working for you again.

rgreene, for a while, I took Serzone, and it really decreased my social anxiety. I'm very shy and socially phobic/anxious/avoidant, and wish I could take more Serzone along with the Effexor-XR I'm taking. Have tried to be more outgoing lately but when I'm around people, I still can't even say hello without feeling like I even did that wrong. Suggest you ask about Serzone.

If you need a Confidence Pill and don't have problems with dependency, my vote is Klonopin. You'll be out and about in no time.
