70 mg prozac for anxiety and depression

Posted by FredPotter on July 10, 2000, at 18:59:25

Have just been prescribed the above for GAD, panic and depression. Does it sound excessive? I start at 20mg and ramp up gradually. The pdoc insists that I've built up a tolerance to Xanax, which I dispute, but he won't prescribe Buspar (it shouldn't be taken with an SSRI - sic). All this despite lack of effectiveness of SSRIs in the past (at normal doses though). I'd appreciate anyone's advice on this.

Fred,

I'm currently on 40mgs of Pro per day. It has tendancy to act as an "activator" for me (which also helps with my mood and depression) but, also occasionally triggers anxiety. My doc said he would not raise the dose above 40 for that reason. I supplement the Pro with Xanax as needed (which is more often than I'd like). I'd really be interested in knowing how the Prozac affects you. 70 mgs seems high to me but probably because of my reaction to it. Please let me know how it works out for you.

Peace,
Greg

Greetings to FredPotter.

I've taken up to 80 mgs. of this stuff for a while but had to cease when the sound of grass
growing at night kept me awake.

Buspar can be taken with an SSRI. It's the MAOI class that Buspar cannot be taken with,
and even this "rule" is questionable. Besides, you're better off with a benzo.
Has Valium fallen out of favor? You don't hear much about this drug anymore.

Fred, I've taken up to 60 mg/day of Prozac (l0 years+) for depression and OCD, and have heard that 80 mg/day is a fairly large dose. When I took a lot of Prozac, in addition to sexual dysfunction, I had "restless legs" at night (would kick all the covers on the floor by morning too). Talk to your pdoc and see if you can work out something you can live with. Good luck!

I'm sorry to but in, but I just had to tell you that the sound of this joke will probably keep me awake tonight laughing.
