lorazepam, buspar, serzone, propanolol, dexedrine

I'm recently enrolled in a rehab program for my alcoholism lorazepam addiction. They immediately took me off the lorazepam, giving me phenobarbitol for about a week and half. I had been taking 4 to 5 mg of lorazepam a day for a year. Needless to say I was very uncomfortable. It was precribed to me for my uncontrollable twitching and panic attacks whenever in a stimulationing or stressful situation. It did work along with the antidepressant(Serzone). When my drinking got to the point where I couldn'nt keep my hands still enough at my job I started to take a little more. Just enough to keep my whole body from shaking.

In place of the lorazepam the rehab dr proscribed buspar and propanolol for the anxiety, panic, tremors and hypertension associated with this anxiety disorder.

Now I've learned that I have ADHD which really took me by surprise because I always think of out of control children hitting an punching in fits of rage. After reading much about this disorder it was like finding some missing pieces to my puzzle. The dexedrine has made a difference with focusing more for longer periods of time, sitting still for more than a half hour, following through with projects. The list goes on but, it's not a cure-all solution. I know I need therapy to learn how to cope day to day with whatever happens to come up.

I really didn't mean to ramble on about all that. I just want to know if anyone has a similar experience or someone has any opinions or advice about being on so many medications at one time. It's been four weeks since my last relapse.

Thanks....terry

You are not the first ADD'er to self medicate,
I did meth for several years. Right drug, wrong reasons.
Unless you know that you have ADD you don't realize why
you self medicate, so you party.

Work with your doc so you can organize your doseing
times so they happen together. Many meds need to be taken
at a specific time. I have it down to pills in the morning,
when I came home, and go to bed. Pills are tied to the action
of wake up, come home, put down keys (the pill box is right there)
and go to sleep. Pill organizers or watches that beep are helpful, esp.
with ADD. Give us (ADD'ers) a reason and we will forget. I also carry
a few of everything along with the emergency driving atavin that is always in the
glove box. The ativan is a must after DTM's (dificult traffic maneuvers) and creative driving
coupons (tickets) !
