Ant-Rock? Combining Parnate with Reboxatine

Posted by shellie on September 14, 2000, at 11:22:44

Hi Anthony. Haven't heard anything from you on the board for a while. Remembered you had run out of adrafiil and were on reboxatine and parnate. Has that worked for you? Please be careful if you go back on adrafinil and parnate--I had a not so serious seratonin reaction, but it could have been much more serious. I was really surprised.

Also, does building up slowly really help? Suppose I ate a bit of cheese everyday with an MAOI. Would I then be able to eat as much cheese as I want at the end of a year? So if you build up slowly on the adrafinil, when you get to your highest goal, does it really matter that you've built up slowly? I don't know the answer to that.

Anyway, I hope you are doing better and can let us know how the reboxatine and parnate did for you. Shellie

Thank you for asking, Shellie.
Unfortunately, this combo didn't produce any real change. Although as a now confirmed guinee-pig, I had no side effects whatsoever taking 50mg Parnate along with 6mg/Reboxetine. None. Zilch.
Maybe I should go up to 8mg rebox, but I really don't think it would change anything. Parnate doing very little if anything at this point.
My Dr. wants to add lithium to my parnate on my next visit, so I probably will do that, and axe the Rebox.
Funny thing happened that I feel I should mention. Last week out of frustration I decided to take the last of my Amisulpride (8 pills), one per night. Nothing happened for 6 days, but on day seven, I experienced 3 great hours of energy and a lifting of much of the depression, that I haven't felt in years & years. Especially my energy, and I made sure I took advantage and did something that I enjoy, but haven't had the energy to do very well. Quite a feeling I must admit. This didn't last for long, but it was at least something positive.
With one pill left, I eagerly, but calmly awaited the next morning with hope of a similar day ahead. Didn't happen, actually very fatigued/depressed the whole day. So thats where I am now. A little more confused, but no worse for the wear.
Thank you for the adrafanil warning Shellie, I actually got up to 450mg/day while on 60mg parnate with no problems, but I appreciate the info just the same.
I hope things work out with the Parnate. Please take care.
As always;
Sincerely,

Anthony

Anthony, can't remember if you ever tried lamictal with parnate. Lamictal worked the best for me with nardil out of anything I've tried but I gained weight. That is actually not a very common side effect (I think maybe under 17% gain weight). If I didn't care about my weight, it was definitely my first choice for an augmentor, although it is a slow process building it up. Sometimes, I think it would have been worth it to be a happier chubby woman! Shellie

Hello Anthony,

Please let us know how are you doing on Parnate and Lithium. My Dr has suggested the same for me, but I'm not there yet. Currently I'm on Neurontin + AD, but Neurontin starts to poop-out gradually.

Just letting you two know that I have friend who stays very stable and feeling quite well on a combo of Parnate and Lithium. She has been on it for several years with success.
Hope this encourages you.

Blessings,

Chris A.

No Shellie,
I haven' tried augmenting with Lamactil. My Dr. and I did discuss it as a possibility if the lithium doesn't work. I am having mixed feelings about staying on parnate at this point, but my Dr. feels I should since a while back I partially responded to it.

Thank you Chris for the support. Is your friend on this combo for depression or Bi-Polar. I am not Bi-polar but have heard Lithium can help unipolar depression as an adjunct.

Also, I had a bad reaction to Amineptine, which is supposed to be a safe tricyclic, but it's a mild stimulant.
I know Parnate's action is stimulating.
What's my risk?
P.S.
My EKG showed sinus tachycardia, and my Pdoc says to try Parnate.
I appreciate any opinions.

I've been taking Parnate off and on (mostly on) for about 12 years. I had a heart attack last October. None of my doctors believed that the Parnate contributed, nor did any suggest that I stop taking it. I think you will find it very effective.
