Effexor xr/ weight gain

Posted by jeniwafer1 on September 22, 2000, at 11:51:32

Hi-

I am going to be going on effexor xr soon. Have many of you experienced weight gain on this? If so, do you really feel it is the medication that caused the weight gain, or maybe something on your part.

Thanks,

Jennifer

> YES! YES! YES!! YOU CAN GAIN WEIGHT ON THIS!!
I am proof of that, and no, i dont blame it on anything but that medicine.
I had lost about 10 lbs and started taking this medication,
and BAM! the weight is back. Still exercising, still eating basically the same.
so....i have decided i can be happier being depressed and skinny, than being depressed and fat.
im coming off this medication. havent taken any today.

i gained 35 pounds in 8 months. i know it was the effexor. i'm 27 years old, always weighed the same. i have a child, gained 60 pounds when i was pregnant, was back down to almost pre-baby weight in a year, without even trying. started effexor this past january, weighed 128, decided to quit taking it the first part of august when i weighed in at 160. no other possible explanations for me.

i've been off effexor xr for a month and a half and can not lose the weight.

hope this helps you and good luck.

> I took Effexor for about 16 months and went off of it about 6 weeks ago. I lost 25 plus pounds and got to a dangerously low body weight for me prior to taking Effexor. After being on the medication for a few months I happily gained the weight back. The problem now is that I have gained 25 more pounds on top of this. My eating and lifestyle habits haven't changed. I feel like I gain more weight everyday. My clothes keep getting tighter and tighter. I also feel so bloated and heavy all the time. I hope to here from someone out there that went back to a normal weight soon after going off Effexor. I weigh more now then I have in my entire life even pregnant. The good news is that I feel mentally great except for this nagging weight gain problem!

I went from 200 to almost 250 in a 8 month period after starting Effexor. I stopped taking it completely about 6 weeks ago and am still having a hell of a time losing this added weight. I have been going to the gym for almost 2 months now, 3x a week for an hour and a half!!! I never had a weight problem before. This is enough to depress anyone!!
