Hello to everybody,
My Doctor added 10 mg of Buspar along with the 60 mg of Paxil I have been on for a year now.
I have only taken 5 mg of the Buspar and I'm feeling even more anxious. I thought it was supposed to relieve the anxiety. I'm in a mental fog and have obssessive thoughts. I'm not tired yet I'm unable to function.
Am- I making sense? OR AM- I LOOSING MY MIND?Wellbutrin is out of the question for me because of my history with bulimia.
Maybe, 60 mg of Paxil is too much?Any feedback appreciated.

Angelrose,
I'm certainly no expert in this area, but I can offer you a few things to ponder.First, my pdoc doesn't like Buspar generally. He says it is a very finnicky and very unpredicatble medication. He has had very few patients helped by it. He thinks it is overpriced and overhyped, with little realworld benefit to most people.
Buspar has intricate functions at both serotonin and dopamine receptors, not to mention what we don't know about it. Because of its complicated mechanisms, there are stikingly different reactions experienced by different people. There have been a few people here who liked Buspar. But overall, it has a reputation for either being uneffective or for causing a host of bizarre unpredictable side effects. For some people it's like candy, and for others it's like amphetamines, and yet for others its like a hypnotic. Its results in different people seem much more finnicky and unpredictable than most other medications.
I think your idea of lowering Paxil is a good one. If you actually feel better at a lower dose, it wouldn't be the first time that's happened. Where to go from here though is a different story. But for now, you could ride out the Buspar and see what happens when the dust settles, and lowering Paxil might be a good idea. Just my thoughts. Personally I didn't like Buspar at all. I discontinued it after a week when I felt very anxious and almost psychotic-like on it, and yet weak-legged and tired at the same time.
John
