airhead ??-med. cause breakdown?

Would taking desipramine, starting with a small dose, added to 90 mg. elavil, cause a breakdown? I was doing fine on the elavil for depression but wanted to lower the dose to get away from the dry mouth, water retention, weight gain. After starting taking the desipramine in the a.m., I crashed hard. I stopped taking the desipramine for 2 weeks and started again when I was feeling better. I tried again but got anxiety, etc.. after 2 days.

Can this happen?
