does anyone take topamax for bipolar? I take topamax and celexa but lately have been having problems maybe because of the holidays. My psychiatist increased my topamax and celexa and said maybe next visit if I am still having problems I could try a new depakote that just came out that does not cause weight gain.... has anyone heard of this??

This is probably Depakote ER (extended release). I really don't think it will have any effect on weight gain. You will still have to maintain the same level of vlaproic acid in your bloodstream for it to be effective.

Hi Sherry,
No, I haven't heard about a new depakote- but if you learn the name I would be really interested since that is the most effective med for me when manic. As far as your instability- most bipolar experts wouldn't prescribe an antidepressant to a person with bipolar disorder (and I have definitely seen more than my share of experts). Perhaps this is something you want to discuss with your pdoc. I have heard lithium works well as an AD, I'm sure a lot of people will attest to that on this board. How much topamax are you taking? I have just started and I'm up to 150mg and having some memory problems, did you? Take care, Judy
