nardil.. food and drug restrictions

Posted by rogdog on December 7, 2000, at 13:35:14

Hey everyone I am going to start nardil in about a week or so, and I am wondering if any one has had any bad reactions as far as food they have eaten. I have got kind of a mixed message as far as what food you can and cannot eat, some people say that you can drink a beer or 2 other say absolutely no cheese.. any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks, rogdog

Hi rogdog. I've been on nardil for many years and never had any bad reactions to any foods. But I'm on a pretty low dose. I think you really can't depend on what has happened to anyone else. I would be really cautious--if you try beer, try one, don't push it. My friend had no reaction to beer, but did to ale. Just always keep in mind the warning signs, if you get a bad headache in the back of your head, or your shoulders stiffen up, I would have my bp taken immediately, or go right to the ER. During my one bad reaction (mixing nardil with adrafinil), my shoulders got very stiff and my pulse kept falling. When I took my bp it was 165/125, I think, so not high enough to do any damage, but I usually am at 110/58. Really, do be careful.

Greetz to rogdog.

Worrying about the food/drug interactions with NARDIL will do more to raise your blood pressure than any of those so-called caveats as mentioned in that accursed book: The PDR.

Worrying also causes a great deal of anxiety and paranoia which could trigger a psychotic episode (with manifestations of schizophrenia) reducing your complete mental and physical being to that of a total walking-talking-Looney-Tune ... and as you're led away in restraints, on a stretcher, with hypos in both arms and hiney, you'll just have to wonder: "Gee, all that from just a simple worry. Harummph!"

THE ONLY THING YOU MUST REMEMBER IS NOT TO TAKE DEMEROL WITH NARDIL. A NARDIL/DEMEROL COCKTAIL IS FATAL. MANY HAVE CROAKED FROM THIS COMBO. CARRY SOME FORM OF CARD WARNING MEDICAL PEOPLE ABOUT THIS (in the event you're found unconscious).

With alcohol, the key is "moderation." Avoid the hard stuff ... beer's okay (infrequently and in moderation, okay?)

With OTC drugs, read insert information first (just avoid colds/flu this season and you should be alright). If you do get sick, use natural remedies for cures. They're better.

As for food? Real men don't eat yogurt or that sissy cheese crap anyways :-)

When I was on Parnate for 5 years, I broke every single food and drug restriction in DA BOOK (guess?), with no deleterious effects. Best drug I ever had, outside the illegal ones. This is why I can't get it anymore. Sounds convoluted? You bet!

Cheers & Good luck to rogdog

I remain,

kazoo
