serzone side effects

Posted by eileenflora on January 25, 2001, at 9:36:49

i have started taking serzone 2 a day, 50 mg in the morning and at night. It is having very bad side effects. How long can I expect side effects to continue? Should I consider taking another lower doze?
Should I consider going off it altogether. I need help!!!

I had bad initial side effects for about 3 weeks, though I don't know what effects you mean, specifically.

Are there some people who SSRIs just don't work for? Both Paxil and Serzone had unbearable side effects for me. Wellbutrin is fine.

I did not have side effects that low. However, Serzone was not a good med for me. After about 12 or 14 days [up to 300 mg a day] I was agitated and had bad insomnia. I also had crying jags. I stayed on it 4 weeks and went to 500 mg and when I told my pdoc about the agitation and crying he took me right off. You did not mention what your side effects are. [naseau?] I did not have that but many people do. I weaned down, and tried Zoloft which did not work well for me either. I am now on Prozac 3 weeks and feel good. I would give the Serzone a little more time to see if the side effects get better. Good luck. I hope it works better for you.

Yes, different people respond differently both to different classes of medications, as well as to different individual medications.

Just to clarify, tho, Serzone is not considered an SSRI, although it does have some serotonin related actions. Maybe one of the more scientifically knowlegable people can explain it.
