Are there any anti-depressants out there that don't take away your sexual drive. I have been on Celexa for 3 weeks now and have had a decreasing sexual drive the whole time. This is causing more problems in my life so the drug is not trully helping. Is there anyone out there with a suggestion of another drug to try?

Wellbutrin and Serzone supposedly do not impact sexual function, but they may not work for you. The following is from the RX List from a pharmacy student who gives dosing, etc for Gingko Biloba to take while taking your antidepressant:
Ok here it is. One of the possible treatments for sexual dysfunction caused by SSRI's, that is being taught to us in pharmacy school, is Ginko Biloba. It has been shown to dialate arteries, veins, and capillaries increasing blood flow. The usual dose is 60-80 mg of standardized leaf extract taken twice to three times a day. However effects may take from 1-2 months to appear. One should be cautioned NOT to use this herbal medication if they are taking anticoagulation threapy with Coumadin (warfarin), aspirin, or antiplatelet drugs (Ticlid, Plavix, or dipyridamole). Caution should also be used when using this medication if the patient has or is being treated for high blood pressure. Always remember to discuss with your physician or pharmacist before starting any herbal medication, to avoid any contraindications. Just thought I would pass this along to offer some potential help to those who are suffering from SSRI-induced sexual dysfuction. Good luck
Hope this helps.

Hey there,Remeron is another one that apparently doesn't cause the problem in most people, though it did in me. Do a search on this website, and you will find lots of past messages dealing with this problem. I can tell you though that dopamine- enhancing drugs often help, like stimulants and sometimes anti-Parkinson's disease drugs.

>Has anyone out there tried gingko biloba and had it work, or not work? i would hate to invest all the effort and money (3x a day for 1-2 months!) if it didn't work.

Paxil caused them for me but the med worked so well that I was motivated to wait it out. 3 months and gone.
Possibility-- what's the half-life look like w/celexa? It's very short w/paxil so best time to *try* while waiting out the problem [argh] was right b4 taking daily dose. Ineffective if med has long half-life.
Stims -- worked for me, adderall 20mgs am.
Older tricyclics -- tofranil a personal fav -- don't seem to have this side effect.Good luck.

I've found (purely by accident) that a combination of Concerta (or probably any form of methylphenidate) and Wellbutrin not only don't decrease functioning, they actually improve it to the point where it is even better than when unmedicated.
Will those medications work that way for you? Maybe, maybe not. Everyone is different; you may have to ask your doctor to let you try different medications until you find something that works for you. I wouldn't just accept that side effect, unless absolutely nothing else worked for the depression. As you said, that can actually cause more problems that it solves.
