I would like to know if being on a serotonergic AD longterm, for example, will cause neurons to be more sensitized to serotonin even after the drug has been stopped. And then if, when you start another somewhat serotonergic AD, you are more likely to get serotonin- related side effects than if you had never taken the highly serotonergic AD to begin with. If so, is this permanent?
I need to know because, as I've posted on here before, I took imipramine years ago with little sexual problems. Then I went a few years on highly serotonergic ADs, which caused the problem big time. For the last three months, though, I've been taking desipramine, which is very similar to imipramine, yet I'm having more sexual problems than I did years ago on imipramine. I am wondering if the serotonergic ADs have made my brain more sensitive to the slight serotonin increase caused by desipramine.
I know that ECT makes the brain more sensitive to neutrotransmitters.

Imipramine and desiprimine are still different meds. I responded to the first but much less well to the latter. wierd, huh?
