Depression, Prozac Wellbutrin or Serzone

Posted by Mary Ann on February 28, 2001, at 0:18:43

I suffer from post traumatic stress (from a near-fatal car accident 7 years ago), dysthymia and panic attacks. I have many OCD behaviors, and was originally prescribed Prozac. It seemed to even me out and get rid of the OCD and calmed me down so that my panic attacks were minimal and my depression improved, but my sex life went down the toilet, which is a major bummer for my hubby. My pdoc said I have an alternative, which is to combine the Prozac with Wellbutrin, or try a relatively new drug, Serzone. Apparently the combo Prozac/Wellbutrin SR negates the sexual side effects (says the doctor) and Serzone seems to not have them either. They are all SSRIs. I read on the threads about TCAs, but I don't know what they are? Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I like to be informed about my health and don't just want to take whatever pills my pdoc throws my way. I take enough Rx meds and OTCs to choke a horse (at last count, about 13 pills a day, not counting my p-meds.

You can e-mail me directly at mededitor@aol.com if you wish to respond, or I will check the threads for responses. Thanks, and mental health to all!

Mary Ann,

There is a Psycho-babble tips page on Wellbutrin:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/psycho-babble-tips/links/Wellbutrin_SR_000963633280/

that has these threads on Prozac and Wellbutrin within the folder on Wellbutrin with other drugs:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/19980901/msgs/706.html

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20000420/msgs/30902.html

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/19991028/msgs/14115.html

Or you could search the archives to see if there is anything more on the combo. Wellbutrin is not an SSRI. I didn't think Serzone was either, but I've neither tried it nor researched it so I could be wrong. You might search the archives on Serzone.

Good luck.

This is the end of the thread.
