I just started on Wellbutrin, after having too many side affects from zoloft. I have been taking 150mg daily for a week, but now I seem more depressed then I was before the wellbutrin. I had not taken any anti-depressent for about 6 weeks prior to my wellbutrin treatment. Has anyone elese noticed an increase in depression?

All you are feeling is the moderate agitation that Wellbutrin causes. Many people get that on SSRIs, too. You may need to take an anxiolytic in addition to the Wellbutrin. Buspirone is good.

The agression I feel is one thing, but several hours after taking my dose, I begin feeling really down in the dumps, almost to the point of falling apart. Maybe I need the sustained realese or a higher dose?

hi. you said you had been taking wellbutrin for a week? you might want to try giving it another week or so--for some people it kicks in slower than for others, although of all the medications i've taken i've found it to be the fastest in taking effect. definetely try the sustained-release--i think it really helps cut down on the mood cycling, especially as your body adjusts. it also causes anxiety in many people and i agree with salarmy4me's comment that you may need to supplement wellbutrin with a longer-lasting benzodiazepene such as xanax or klonopin. most doctors are well aware of the anxiety symptom and so are not averse to co-prescribing these. good luck!

Dear LostOne,Wellbutrin can make depression worse.
On several different trials of Wellbutrin, I experienced a moderate exacerbation of my depression. I can think of at least one other person for whom this has also been the case.
I can't think of a single antidepressant that has not made someone's depression worse. We are putting in our bodies powerful chemicals that's properties we don't fully understand into a biological system of which we know so little and understand even less. A drug that helps one person can hurt another. Why?????...
I am not saying that Wellbutrin has made *your* depression worse. I am just responding to your question.

Do you think it's the SR version that made the
difference, time, or taking it twice a day?

I think it was a combination of things. Possibly too small a dose for someone my size, and it was probably wearing off too quickly, is what my Dr. told me. I am not ovewrweight, just big boned.

Just wondering b/c I tried wellbutrin a couple of
times (not SR) and it made me more depressed, and
I wonder if the SR version wouldn't. I would love
to be able to take wellbutrin b/c of the no sexual
side effects.
