Klonopin & Drug Screen (Metabilites?)

Posted by Kristine on February 26, 1999, at 18:55:26

Does anyone know how long I would have to be off Klonopin to pass a drug screen? I noticed in the literature that Klonopin does not have an active metabolite -- someone once told me that in drug screens they are actually searching for the metabolites, not the drug itself. So if Klonopin does not have one then is it undetectable? Are there any "underground" books on how this kind of testing is done?

I am also interested in the question. any info on how long it takes Klonopin to clear out for a negative drug screen?

James here....

One month, after last dose. Perhaps longer if you carry extra weight (like me).

Would taking Klonopin .50mg/day keep someone from getting a job?

I don't know if it can keep you from getting a job or not. Some say if it is a prescription medication you are ok. I would wonder if the prospective employer would be more interested in WHY you are taking it, and not hire for that reason. I can tell you if you are taking it and you try to get life insurance they want to know everything about you, and you pay thru the nose. Been there, doing that... "We" are risky business, it seems. Not fair. Do you know how much you need to be taking for it to show in a drug screen? Does the amount of time you have taken it play a part as well?

got my job w/ drug screen, on klonopin - no prob

I was taking Prozac, Klonopin, BuSpar and occasionally Xanax when I took the drug screen for my current job. I never told anyone I was on these meds, and it never came up. I would assume that, since so many people take this stuff, it's not a flag on a drug screen. But I don't know for sure. To be safe, you may want to mention it to the lab and just ask them about it.

You have the right to take meds perscribed by a doc, this cannot keep you from a job

They cannot ask this.
