For 3 yrs I was on Prozac for PMS (prescribed by GYN)..in Jan. my GP changed me to Efferox XR b/c I was trying to lose weight and he claim prozac would cause weight gain. Couldn't tell much difference but husband claims I quit having any sexual desire. Icalled my GP and ask if he could change my RX. My GP decided for me to just quit taking anything and I am to see him with in one month. I am a tax preparer and right now can't take time off work for a drs visit. This week was my first week off Efferox...day 3 I noticed that I seemed "spacy" and my vision wasnt't real clear. I am very tired!!! I called my GP one week after beginning off the drug....and told them what I just told you....they told me that wasn't due to withdrawals. Does anyone have any advise, suggestions etc? I am a 45 yr old female.

In reply to Prozac Then Efferox XR and nothing, posted by Rita Wingard on April 7, 2001, at 19:31:09
Rita,
It depends on what you want to do. That GP is full of shit (excuse my language but that makes me mad) when he says that the problems you're having are not due to withdrawal symptoms.
If you want to withdraw completely from drugs, if I remember correctly, Cam W. had a post on the right way to withdraw from Effexor. Then you need to find a doctor who could supervise this withdrawal. It sounds like to me although I am not a doctor that you were withdrawn too quickly.
If you want to go back to Prozac or try something else, again, you need to find a doctor. It sounds like this GP doesn't have a clue.
As a last resort, if you can't get the relief you need, here is something that I did that might help. I was taken off Ritalin suddenly because like you, I was told the withdrawal symptoms would be minor. Yeah right.
After not being able to get in touch with my doctor because I had so many problems, I went to a hospital ER and was given Ativan. I know, a dramatic solution but it worked.
Of course, I am not saying what is appropriate for you but just giving you some ideas as to what you could do in case the situation got desperate.
Good luck.Shirley
