I have been taking effexor for a year and a half now. I have tryed once before to quit taking it and couldnt. This time I have decided to quit no matter what. My body however is not agreeing with me one bit. It has been 3 days since I have taken effexor and I can not function right. I feel like I am High and drunk. It seems like you would feel like that while you are on a medication, not while trying to quit. What kind of drug is this. I think it should be illegal. My body has never been addicted to something like this before. I am going to hang in there and not give in to this horrible drug. I will never take this again.

Hi,
I don't know what's gotten into me, been posting like heck today for some reason. I actually have nothing to do at the moment, and lots of energy.Did the effexor work for whatever you have taken it for?
There are lots of tips on here.... look around in the archives, and the tips section. There seem to be a lot of mutual agreement on a small dose of prozac and even benadryl to help ease what your feeing.
Also there is a lot of advice about the taper method. Hang in there.. it will eventually get better.
You sound so much like me.. I didn't want to taper, or anything.... just wanted off! Some people are able to do that..... and you sound like you have the willpower to do the cold turkey thing. But again..... try this benadryl.. don't make yourself suffer more than you have to. Keep us posted!!! Michele

P.s.
Warning... your probably going to get a lot of slack for saying the drug should be illegal..(altho, I agree.. :-)).... but I think we have just had some bad experiences. It really has worked for many!

Take it easy, and taper slowly. Some Pdocs prescribe Prozac for a few days to take the edge off the withdrawal. I happen to agree with you about Effexor, but I also realize it's quite effective for many people. I wish I'd been forewarned about the potential for severe withdrawal symptoms from Effexor.

James here.....
It is the only antidepressant that works for me, and I have none of the bad effects you had. Each
of us is different, so just because you had a bad time does not mean the meds is not of benifit to some of us.James

Totally agreed.... and I think I've said that in my posts.... everyone is different!!!!!
But I guess the people having the problem with effexor... need to vent, and people to talk to. I don't think people feel it should be taking off the market.... just like any other medication on the board.. we are just looking for support.
It is kind of weird tho how it has showed up so much? But then again... so has celexa.. and, am I mistaken... or are they pretty much the newest AD's on the market? Could be the reason... people getting used to it or whatnot. Don't get me... or any of us wrong. Take whatever makes you feel good! I may like zyprexa for example.. but for you... it might have been "poison"... But... experience in lurking and posting on this board... shows me effexor is definately the most worried about drug. That's what scares me the most....there must be something to that.
I am so glad it's working for you.......! Hopefully all of us anti effexor users will be able to find something too.... :-) I hope I haven't offended you.

Well, the fact that you persoaally have an adverse event does not mean Effexor (one of the most effective ADs ever) should not be marketed !> I have been taking effexor for a year and a half now.
