Just found this board and it's great! I was dx with FM/MFC several years ago and recently have been in horrible pain. I also have IBS which causes a lot of abdominal pain. Recently I've had pain in my ribs which the doc says is probably chostochondritis related to the FM. A trip to the chiropractor seems to have set off the latest episode of pain--when he used the ultra sound on my lower back the pain all over increased and I was in worse shape than before. My doc is wanting me to try a low dose of Serzone again since all this pain is causing major anxiety and some moderate depression. I'm still not sure I actually have FM since my pain seems to stem from *knots* along my muscles which are extremely painful and tender--usually mostly when pressure was applied to them, but now they seem to hurt all the time, especially those along my ribs. Has anyone has similar symptoms--especially along with the abdominal pain, which was helped by Serzone or any of the other AD? I take Celebrex for pain, but it doesn't help much and my doc recently gave me samples of Ultram which offer some relief--but I've read some distrubing things about Ultram so I'm hesitant to take it too often. I've tried Elavil, Prozac and Celexa with no success. I tried Serzone in the past and it seemed to help, but it also seemed to make all my tender spots hurt more as I increased the dosage. Any ideas or suggestions would by most helpful >

Buspirone may have some action _against_ IBS. If so, that would be a nice addition to your regimen, because it is an effective anti-anxiety/ antidepressant too (at high doses): http://www.dr-bob.org/tips/split/Buspirone-for-irritable-bo.html

I am not currently taking any SSRI's, only Librax for the IBS and Celebrex for the FMS
Any suggestions?

Baclofen is a muscle relaxant. I find it to be better than flexeril because the baclofen actually relaxes the muscles. It does take a little bit of time to "kick in" but sure is worth it. I still get muscular pain, which may be aggravated by the effexor I take, but no severe cramps. For the stomach I suggest eating an apple or two every day. For myself, I find that oranges and tomatoes can cause pain. I've tried other fruits but the apple seems to be the one for me. Maybe the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away!" has some merit to it.
I'm also seeing a psychologist. I don't know if you've noticed any relation to everyday stressors and the pain. It may be something that you may want to consider?
BESTI WISHES, for a day with no cramps! : )

You might want to check out the anticonvulsants. Neurontin has shown some utility in fibromyalgia, and would produce the least side effects. Tegretol is also used.

Thanks guys for the info. I have an appointment in a few weeks with my doc and I'll mention these meds to him. He's usually very receptive to my suggestions and will usually check them out himself as well. I'm fortunate to have such a great doc.
Hope you are well.
