I recently saw a study that showed that antidepressant use
decreased testosterone levels. Has anyone else heard
about this? I've been taking prozac for about 6 years
and recently got my hormone levels checked. Basically
for sex drive related issues. I know that prozac decreases
my sexual sensitivity and drive to some degree, but these
past 1 or 2 years, something has felt different to me, like
I had even less sex drive than usual. When I got my hormone
levels tested, my testosterone was low.

Testosterone replacement resolved my twenty years battle with depression. No more Parnate. Hooray!
I wish some dope had checked back when I was twenty-one. Oh well.

Tell me more--what happened? Did you stop AD use
altogether? Unfortunately testosterone replacement
isn't an option for me...since I'm a pre-menopausal
woman. I tried to get the endocrinologist to prescribe
some testosterone cream for very small doses, but no go.
Do I have to resign myself to being a eunich? I try
to go off AD's, but I always get so damn depressed. Nothing
but the sex numbing SSRI's work for me. Although the one
AD I haven't tried yet is Effexor.

I too am a woman, though I've been asked by a child wether I'm a girl or boy because of my facial hair. It's not that bad, but you know children! Anyway I've noticed that the hair is getting finer, which is a bonus for me. Though I'm starting to get premenstrual migraines starting half way through my cycle. I guess we have to pick our evil.

Most of the prohormones when taken orally convert to testostrone. One such prohormone is called 19-nor-4-androstenediol (sometimes androstenediol for short.) Women don't need much to raise there testosterone levels to normal. If it works for you, you could even take it about an hour before amore'. If you take it only when needed it won't affect your endocrine system very much. You can buy this now at most health food supplement stores, like GNC. Another option might be to get the cream from overseas. Farmaci Cerati may carry it.

Mine test low but I think still in the low normal range. My doc said he would let me have T-replacement if I wanted to try it, but I was afraid that it would make the old gonads shrink to the size of raisins.

T was very low; don't remember the figures. Surprised both the doc and myself. You know the story: guy goes to doc, says libido is flagging, wants T. T comes back normal -- it's all in his head. So I did get a big "I told you so" < g >.
My nuts did shrink a bit but it doesn't matter to me. If it mattered to someone I was sleeping with, I wouldn't be sleeping with them.

Is it supposed to increase testosterone?
