I have been taking 150mg/day of Luvox for depression since early February. Yesterday, I decided to donate blood (something I used to do quite often but haven't done in awhile), and noticed some very interesting and unexpected physical symptoms last night.
I had been on Luvox a couple of years ago, and I had taken it for about three years then. My episodes of depression are always accompanied by, or preceeded by, physical bodily symptoms. In the most recent case, it was strange visual symptoms (i.e., the sensation that the light in the room was dimming, ocular migraine symptoms like flashing lights, etc.). Well, these had pretty much gone away or been greatly reduced after starting Luvox recently, but they came back last night full force. Also, I have experienced SSRI discontinuation syndrome (electric zaps in the head & other strange sensations) when I previously stopped taking Luvox, and I also had a few of these sensations last night. Very strange, I know!
I have heard that Luvox has a much shorter half-life in the bloodstream than other SSRI's, and I can only think that by donating blood I reduced the available amount of the drug that was in my system by a substantial amount. This is only a theory, but I know what I experienced and it was definitely a combination of my pre-SSRI depression symptoms and the SSRI discontinuation symptoms that I've experienced before.
Any thoughts on this?
