I just started 37.5 of Effexor yesterday. It was added to my 750mg of Depakote regimen.
I feel weird. I was thinking about why this weird feeling was familiar. And it hit me:
This feels like taking acid (LSD.) Not the hallucination part of acid, but the beginning physical part and the after it's over physical part.
Knots in muscles, "acid yawns", anxious feeling all over the body, nervous energy, shakiness. But not "like" acid...EXACTLY LIKE acid.
Anyone else feel this way? This is scaring me. I'm supposed to up my dose soon and it's already freaking me out...

All kinds of responses listed on this web site concerning Effexor. Talk to your doctor. He/she may not be able to help, but at least you've told them... Keep a log or journal to document what you feel and when. It may help later...

While Effexor feels like LSD to you it is not related to LSD. I would expect these side effects to fade as time goes by. The first week on a new AD tends to be weird.

Craig, I felt the same way on Effexor and it only got worse as I upped the dose. I've never taken LSD but I describe my experience on Effexor as a combo of:
1. bad LSD trip
2. being plugged into an electrical outlet
3. severe fluI'm not saying this will happen to you, but I got continually worse and ended up taking a short-term disability from work to taper off and recover. I had severe spasms throughout my body, electric shock sensations in body and brain, all sorts of other crazy symptoms. Also, the more Effexor I took, the less I slept, less I ate, worse my head ached. I lost about 12 pounds in less than 2 weeks when I upped my dose to 150/day.
Be aware of how you're feeling and talk to your pdoc. If you stay on it, ramp up very slowly. (I always do half what my already-cautious pdoc prescribes).

Craig -
My doctor started me on Effexor about a month and half ago, which was my first AD. I had complained about waking up in the middle of night with my mind racing. It totally felt like when you take LSD and you try to fall asleep but can't because you are too wired.
We decided that Effexor was not right for me so he gave me Wellbutrin. I started taking 150mg of Wellbutrin the first week and then 300mg the second week. I was able to sleep through the night and it had less side effects than Effexor, actually hardly any. I'm on my third week of it and I am feeling a lot better.
I'm not suggesting to stop taking the Effexor but you should definitely discuss these feelings with you doctor.
Best of luck.

> JamesI've been on Prozac now for about 10 years off and on and I've tried Zoloft. When I started both of them I felt like I feel when I have a bit too much coffee! I've never dropped acid but I think that's a little too much in the side effect department to expect people to have to put up with.
