I have been taking Topomax now for about 6-8 weeks and have lost 20lbs. Before I was taking Depakote as a mood stabilizer and had gained 40lbs over 6mos. :( Now, though, I have to be careful about losing too much weight since I have a history of anorexia and bulimia (there is a fine line to wishes and desires, my friend.) But, I am taking 200mg/day of Topomax (50mg/4X) and feel great. I do have side effects, such as dry, dry mouth, light-headedness, loss of appetite, food doesn't appeal to me - it just doesn't taste the same, carbonated drinks taste funny, but mostly the dry mouth is the pain. But, to lose the weight and to have stable mood is worth it. I am happy. But, those around me are concerned about my weight loss. So beware and good luck! :)
