I thought that since I only took FXR 17 days, that I could just stop it. My highest dose was 75mg. I have never felt so ill in my whole life. I missed several days of school. I was sick to my stomach, very nauseous. I think it is best to follow the warnings from the drug company that if you take it longer than 1 wk, be weaned off the drug rather than just stop. I thought I was fine because the symptoms weren't the most severe right away. It was more like the 4th or 5th day where I felt like I was dying. I could hardly eat or drink. However, it is possible I was ill from other things that may have made it worse. I could not sleep for a whole night as I had insomnia and when I finally went to sleep horrible dreams kept waking me back up. I was not only able to see in these dreams, but actually able to feel. I actually felt like someone climbed into my bed next to me (pretty scary when you live alone and thus don't normally have a sleeping partner, lol). I was really freaked out, but I think the worst thing has been being so nauseous and unable to find anything to help it and being unable to eat much for like 24 hrs. I reccomend checking out a website I came across. I can't validate its source of info, but it sounds like a decent source of info to me. It has a good comment about how to minimize withdrawal with a drug your doc can prescribe to minimize the nausea. I forget what its called, starts with an O, but the website is www.effexorfx.freeuk.com .

>I hear ya Battygoth -
several times I have decided to take myself off of effexor (any kind ie xr or standard etc) and have gotten unbelievably ill. I end up in the infirmary sick as a dog. The way you feel is unreal! Thanks for the website cue.

Thanks for the warning! I've only been on it 5 weeks (150mg), and I was just going to try cutting it off altogether this wkend. (for once, my dr was WRONG! she said withdrawal shouldnt be bad cuz I wasn't on it long!) I took a 75 last night and I'll take 75mg every other day for a week and then go to 37.5 every other day for a wk. So far the only withdrawal symptom I've had is numb lips. I'm hoping to keep it that way. If chewing my lips is the worst thing that happens, I'll consider myself lucky. ;)
Cross your fingers for me and I'll do the same for you!! :)

I have had to go off effexor twice for medical reasons. Once I did it cold turkey. About the 4th day all the horrible symtoms occured. lasted about 4 days.... 4 very awful bad days I may add.
So next time..... I tried the taper method. Went from 150 to 75 to 37.5... etc.. over a two month period. About the 4th day all the horrible symtoms occured. Just as bad. Lasted about 4 days. Isn't that strange???? I'm not sure what to make of it. I read a post way back in one of the archives where someone mentioned that she was wondering if tapering really does help. Something to ponder I guess.... Of course, I think were guinea pigs enough to try it. :-) Good luck to all trying to get off... everyone is so different but don't always expect the worst. It wont last forever. That was what kept me from sticking through those 4 days without taking another. Again, good luck. This is a very difficult thing to do.
