Wellbutrin general info

Posted by SalArmy4me on June 16, 2001, at 0:51:35

I took Wellbutrin for a month and a half. I had no side-effects.

Here is why Wellbutrin is a good deal for those who like it:
*It has no anticholinergic side-effects.
*It has few, if any sexual side-effects. In fact, it may even improve sex drive and alleviate anorgasmia for some.
*Wellbutrin interacts negatively with few drugs, thus one could add most antidepressants to it (if need be).
*People like the stimulating effect of it.
*The new SR formulation can be taken 2 times a day instead of 3 times a day.
*No blood tests are needed.
*Wellbutrin IR is not as expensive as the SSRI's, mirtazapine, or venlafaxine.

when is your dose too high on wellbutrin?

Hi,

Two days ago I changed my dosing on wellbutrin i.r. from 75mg 4x/day (300mg) to 100mg 3x/day. My "experiment" is to see if I can push back the time between doses basically for convenience. Then, I can up to 400mg if necessary.

Here's the deal: after day one I woke up with this weird depression that was uncommon for me. My only conclusion is that, since I have eliminated the fourth dosing my system was "low" when I woke up. I'm also tired now and have significantly napped both afternoons.

Question: Do you think upping to 100mg tabs has caused the drowsiness and that decreasing to 3 tabs/day will not cover me completely in a 24 hour period? Would upping to 400mg be necessary, which would mean a return to the 4 doses/day cycle? How do I know when I've "reached the therapeutic dose?"

Point of info: I can't take SR because it makes me hypothermic and, in my body, it acts like IR anyway. Also, I find that I cannot go more than 5 hours without taking a dose (irritability first sign.) of either SR or IR. This leaves me vulnerable overnight.

Thanks for all wise insights.

Terra

Hi there,
I don't know how wise this is, but I can tell you my experience. I take 75ir 3x a day, about 6 hours apart. This seems fine. One thing I wanted to note to you is that when I forget to take some or all the next day I am depressed too. What times do you take it for 4x a day. I do 8, 2, 8 and that seems fine. If I take it too late then I wake up in the middle of the night. Just my experience.

Hi, when taking 75mg 4x a day I dosed 6,11,4,9. The bedtime dose actually helped me fall off to sleep. I notice that I'm ready to sleep because I've been going hard all day. But then I also wake up around 5:30, sometimes I like it and sometimes I swallow my morning dose and go back to sleep. But, mostly I enjoy the time to myself before the house gets up. Stretching it from 9pm - 6am the next morning is 9 hours. That's long when at all other times it's 4-5 hours apart.

Now I don't know what's going to happen with only taking 3 tabs (100mg ea). So far it's not going so well, but I'm letting myself break it in for a week. I don't know if I should up it to 400mg, or keep it at 300mg. My pdoc has left that up to my judgement. grrrrr. help! thanks. terra.
