I am on Tegretol 350 mgs and suffering terribly with GI problems. I have terrible heartburn, sore throat, stomach pain and constipation. I take liquid Mylanta 3x a day with little relief.
Would Triletal be a good drug to switch to? I like how Tegretol works for my mood, but I really feel physically awful most of the time.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am bi-polar with rapid cycles. Pdoc tried me on Tegretol and I suffered the GI problems as well as horrible headaches. He switched me to Trileptal last week. So far, it has been great. No side problems. Does anyone know if Trileptal can cause weight gain or loss?

Chloe,
I took Trileptal last fall in small doses. Weight gain was not a problem and I didn't have any other noticeable side effects other than sedation which did not go away. I stopped taking it and a small dose of Neurontin after I had an automobile accident that we suspect was meds related. I am particulary sensitive to sedation and cognitive dulling on lots of meds, especially ACs with the exception of Lamictal. Trileptal seems very promising for those of us who are bipolar. I also have rapidly fluctuating symptoms. Today isn't so great... but tomorrow might just be OK. I keep trying to tell myself that, even if I don't believe it.Blessings,
Chris A.
