HELP ADVISE PLEASE! CELEXA PROBLEMS!

Posted by DebbieLynn on July 7, 2001, at 19:16:05

OK...I am on 225mg of Effexor Xr, I have been on this for about 5-6months with no problems. I do have anorgasmia (cannot acheive orgasm) My pdoc added Celexa (20mg) to try to augment this. I have been on that about 4 weeks. Well last night I started feeling very strange. My pupils dilated, my ears started ringing, very cold, but sweating, seeing "trails" off of everything that moved, hallucinations. Well I started in with anxiety and ran to my ativan bottle. Within a few minutes, my body started calming down, but I still had the visual hallucinations. I just felt like I wasn't really wasn't here. I was extremely sick to my stomach, and had a headache. You name it I had it. I called my pdocs answering service and the nurse told me to discontinue Celexa and go over to the emergency room. They really didn't do anything, checked me out, my heart was beating irregular, so they did an EKG, but the ativan was kicking in, calming me. I feel a little better, just really spacy! I will stay with my Effexor and deal with the sexual side effect. Effexor has been a miracle for me!!!!

Has anyone every experienced this?
Debbie

I've never heard of _adding_ Celexa to remedy Effexor anorgasmia. I would think that would make things worse! Try adding buproprion or mirtazapine next time.

I go to see him tomorrow, as an emergency visit. I feel 100% better today. Do you know of any drug-drug interaction with Effexor XR and Celexa? I do not want that to happen again! My doc will not put me on Remeron because it tends to add on some extra pounds. Wellbutrin may be a good choice. I will see what he says. I am TERRIFIED of that situation happening again. Does it sound like Serotonin syndrome? What would be the probabilities of Effexor and Wellbutrin causing side effects like the ones I had w/ Celexa? His initial idea was to add the Celexa and eventually taper the Effexor. I really dont want to come off of the Effexor yet because it works so well for me!

Any opinions?
Debbie
