Paxil vs. Celexa concerning sedation

Posted by ben on July 8, 2001, at 10:40:01

I am on 40 mg Paxil for three days now after slow titration of the dose during 4 weeks. I feel very fatigue . In the morning I feel that I didnt sleep and have a fog with stiches in the brain which lasts the whole day.
When I started with Paxil it made me initally calmed and sedated, then with each increase I felt agitated and now on 40 mg I feel sedated again. I had up to 100 mg Celexa when I felt like this.
Is Paxil causing more sedation than Celexa ?
For me Celexa was the more sedating the longer I took it and the higher the dose. So I decides to take it before sleeping. Now I take Paxil in the morning
and it makes me drugged. Perhaps 40 mg is too much.

paxil takes some time to get used to. i did feel similar effects on 40mg (i am now tapering off.) my doc told me that at a higher dose, the sedation goes away-sounds weird. i think that you need to be on it a bit longer. it takes a while for the fogginess to go away. when i went up to 40mg, i felt like i was stoned and had the munchies. that went away after a couple of weeks at that dose. hang in there.

What did you say ? I have to wait a couple of weeks to see if this stoned feeling fades away ? I tried this with Efexor 150 mg ER and my head didnt clear up after 2 month...
I guess ading a stimulant would be an option, but I dont want to take any amphetamines and Ritalin I heard acts like a bomb with a roller coaster effect. There arent any other options in my country besides Pirisudanol (Nadex).

Paxil caused me to feel very tired. Celexa has very minor sedation for me. Funny thing is, that in double-blind studies, Paxil was both more sedating and caused more insomnia than Celexa. Go figure.
