Hi guys,

After a few weeks of surveying this thread, I
found much support and empathy, ergo, now I wanna
participate.
Like many others in this forum, I have been slammed
with myriad diagnoses. Currently, I am being treated
for GAD, PTSD, and Panic Disorder. After dealing with
the bureacracy of University care (UPMC Pittsburgh), I
am now in private treatment.
My current doc (who, by the way, doesn't treat me like a specimen in a petri dish) said my past diagnoses
were way innaccurate. (BPD, Bipolar...)
So now I am on 5 mgs of Klonopin and 20 mgs of Paxil
per diem. Has anyone had success with this combo? Seems like my downward spikes are decreasing (placebo?) and I am able to leave the house, catch the bus, maybe even finish my degree in the Spring.
Anyway, thanks for listening, any posts will be appreciated.

I'm no expert, but the klonopin/paxil combo is probably a good one for anxiety stuff. I wish I had some klonopin :O). It sounds like it's working so far, which is great! How long have you been on it?
P.S. If there's any placebo affect, I don't think it would be from the klonopin.

Hi McMannis--

Welcome to PB! I have a good friend who has done well on the Paxil/Klonopin combo for her GAD/depression. All psych meds have their trade-offs, but both Paxil and Klonopin have good track records for anxiety. Just a couple of caveats your doc may not have mentioned: Paxil is the SSRI most likely to cause significant weight gain (beware of the "munchies"--a low carb diet and exercise are important while on this drug); and Paxil is difficult for some to d/c (discontinue)--*never* stop "cold turkey".
My friend was eventually switched from Paxil to Serzone because of weight gain (she has a chronic joint injury which prevents vigorous exercise). Now that she is stable, she takes her Klonopin prn (as needed) for anxiety. At low doses, it seldom leads to tolerance, and it can be taken intermittently, if desired.

It sounds like you've finally found competent care (what a relief, huh?). Hope this combo does well for you; please keep us posted on how it goes.

Well wishes---medlib
