Well, OK I did not share that I am also sexually compulsive with this group because I did not feel comfortable with all of you yet. I thought that perhaps I would get judged and there would be folks that had a "better than thou" attitude.
I visited my pdoc today and he has me off of Effexor XR (This morning was the las 37.5mg dose). Tomorrow I start with 20mg of Celexa in the am and 150mg of Wellbutrin SR at lunch.
The trick is to be able to have healthy sexual relations with my partner and to be able to live free of the compulsion to have sex continuously with strangers. I work a 12-step program for this and my pdoc says that Celexa can help me.
He also said that Celexa will help with my anxiety. I hope that it is all he has cracked it up to be. I don't want to be a zombie. I don't want to be sexually numb and fat. I don't want to feel like I'm on speed either. These have all been past reactions to Effexor XR in the beginning and a I've experienced some of this with the Wellbutrin SR.
I'll let you all know how I'm doing. If you have any sage advise about using Celexa with Wellbutrin, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

Hey!
Thanks! That was very helpful!!! Here is an excerpt that describes me to a "T."
"The bottom line was that the history and presentation suggested that the "sexual addiction" was a compulsive behavior which relieved anxiety, and not a manifestation of an episodic or cyclical mood change. "
This pdoc prescribed flouxetine (Serafem)(Prozac) with good results.
Celexa is also an SSRI, no? I have read studies where Celexa was given to sexually compulsive people because it is shown that those of us who have compulsive disorders benefit from SSRIs and Celexa was one of the least disruptive of sexual functioning. Basically it is not necessarily good to chemically castrate a sexual compulsive. That may bring on worse depression for me.
I want to be able to function with my loving partner without having a compulsion to go out and have sex with everyone I see.
Some of the pdocs also discussed 12 step groups like SLAA of which I have attended regularly for 5 years with mixed results. I'm new to meds. Perhaps medication along with my 12 step groups can help me to recover from sexual compulsion.
Oh yeah, and there is the depression too which Wellbutrin and Celexa are supposed to treat.
Well, from what I've read here most of us have a combination of disorders and most of us need a "cocktail" in order to help us recover. I'm just greatful I live in an age where this help is available.
My grandfather put a bullet in his head after 7 years of sobriety in AA. Basically he had untreated depression and sexual compulsion. All of this stuff is deadly.
Hopefully I will be able to recover enough so I don't follow in my grandfather's footsteps.
