Feeling stupid

Posted by Poppy on August 8, 2001, at 6:43:45

I have been on effexor two years now and I feel that I am getting more stupid everyday, I lose words for things when I am trying to explain something, I am still currently studying, so I still read and learn things everyday, but I must just be forgetting. Anyone else feel like they are losing intelligence?

Are you sure you're not just being made tired by the Effexor?

Poppy,

I've felt that way quite intensely when I've been on a medication that wasn't working for me, whether because it was a bad match or because the dose was just too low. In that case I also feel like I'm slow, dull, and awful company.

Maybe your medication isn't doing for you what it could? You could also be in the early stages of antidepressant "poop out." Also, I've heard a few stories on this board of people needing to increase their Effexor dosage over a few years to maintain its efficacy.
