Hi Firebabe,
My boyfriend feels exactly as you do. He finally got to the correct dose of Effexor XR for him; 262.5; so precise. 225 mg not quite enough, and 300 too much. He takes Buspar with it, and Trazodone at night. Meanwhile, he's 3 years on Effexor XR. Stay well!!!!!!

I have a very dumb (but sincere) question: how did your boyfriend know that the 300mg Effexor was too much? The reason that I ask is that I am also one of those people who had to get beyond 225 mg to even begin to feel 'normal.' I stayed at 262.5 for over two months and then chopped the little pills again for 281.25, and I really can't tell much difference one way or the other...obviously it would be much simpler to take 300 mg--but if that is 'too much,' I'll stick with chopping tablets. Again, my question is: how do you know? I certainly knew when the meds started 'kicking in.' I felt human, alive, happy, content and motivated again--for starters ;-) I am capable of feeling sadness, pain and disappointment, but they no longer rule my life. When would I know that I have crossed this threshold?
Thanks for your response (and I also welcome any others to respond who have experienced this!)

They only way I could tell that the 300mg was too much was the DAMN SIDE EFFECTS!! When I cut it down to 225mg, the side effects were much less severe. I started 300mg today, but not until I had been on the 225mg for 2 weeks, I had so much energy and did not have the "caffiene high", sweating and headaches like i did with the jump from 150 to 300. All it took was to up the dose from 150 to 225 for 10 days.

Joy:
That is why I kept splitting the already-split pills--I didn't make the kind of jumps that you did, because I was afraid of the side effects that you experienced. I am still wondering since I have made the small jumps without those side effects, when I will know that I have'maxed' out. Sorry that you had the bad experiences, but glad that you have found an effective dose that makes you feel so much better!--isn't it wonderful?

Kaysey, My bf went up fairly gradually and still didn't feel quite right at 225. He does have sweating at 262.5 and sleeps a lot. He felt anxious and just not right at 300 mg. Also he has taken that dose a couple of times during crisis, but goes back to the 262.5 XR dose. Just dose up slowly; I think he takes 4 pills, including a 37.5 and I think three 75 mgs all XR, and at the same time. He claims the Buspar added with the Effexor XR helps his anxiety. A little Xanax as needed helps mine!Good luck
