Hi allI think I have what you'd called cyclothymia or maybe light bipolar. I've tried a lot of meds but thought that my symptoms which included depression, mania (never psychotic) and lots of anxiety in some ways looked like ADD, that is I couldn't concentrate etc etc. I saw a doctor who agreed that Dex was worth a try.
I tried a very small amount to begin with and had a big anxiety attack the likes of which I've never had, my mind was racing and i felt very out of control, it was very uncomfortable and scary. It lasted about an hour.
Problem is they keep coming and aren't diminishing, its been about two months. I am taking Zyprexa which dulls the impact but i can still feel them there and they come back when I go off Zyprexa.
I desperately want to get back to my old self without these anxiety rushes. Any ideas?

I've heard of cases where a person thought to be predisposed to it developed panic disorder after using drugs -- mainly marijuana, but it seems like it would be possible with amphetamine and analogs too. I had a bad panic attack when I tried adding Dexedrine to Parnate, and a number of people have experiences that I've heard described -- by a psychiatrist -- as "quasi-psychotic." How much did you take, BTW, and were you taking anything else with it?

thanks for your response
I had a small flake off one tablet, hardly any, but I have a weird metabolism like that I only need a small fragment of anything to have an effect. I wasn't taking anything else with it.
I did read something about "kindling" on this site which from what I understand means that neurons get sensitised by an initial stimulus and continue in that way.
That might be what's happened to me. I haven't heard of any ways to counter this so far.

Alex,Suggest to your doctor about getting a blood workup done to check your thyroid function, you need to rule out a general medical condition as a cause. Sometimes panic attacks can be a result of that.

Given you only took a dose of so there is every reason to think this will resolve over time.
A few people do get this reaction to amphetamine.
Even a small dose starts the racing thoughts, panics, and feelings of doom or anxiety. They tend never to take amphetamine again. Benzos stop this reaction cold. I would think benzos would be a good treatment for this if it continues.James
