TEGRETOL... Uh oh!

Posted by bob on October 10, 2001, at 14:39:31

I've taken Tegretol for two days now (100mg b.i.d.) The first night it made me sleepy and calm. The next morning and day I felt more refreshed and by that evening quite good. Then, I couldn't get to sleep last night until 3! This morning, I woke up at 8:00am (I never wake up that early) and started experiencing generalized anxiety in the form of muscle tension in my limbs and back. I got up and went to work anyway and felt a little better. Then I went to eat lunch and began to feel weak and sweaty and very overheated. I went home and took my temperature, and it is completely normal. Could Tegretol be making me feel like this??????????

I don't know if it's the Tegretol, but I'm very interested to know how you feel in the next days because my doc wants also to give me Tegretol.
Could you tell me why you take that med ? is it for resistant depression ?

Tegretol made me feel like I was on a sub-hallucinogenic dose of LSD. The symptoms you describe sound a lot like the way that feels (at least to me): tight muscles; kinda wired, but lethargic and weak; sweaty and hot, etc. I quit taking it, I felt like I was going to start tripping any minute.

Sigolene:

Yes, I'm taking the Tegretol as an adjunct to my VERY treatment-resistant depression. It is an augmentation to my Luvox and Clonazepam.

The today was a little better than yesterday, but I was quite tired. I would not be able to function like this if the tiredness does not wane. Also, I'm still experiencing the hotness a little. Oh well, who the heck knows what tomorrow will bring.
