exemption from doing the presentations

Posted by tensor on November 13, 2001, at 17:34:02

I have now an exemption from doing the presentations at my university, so I don't have worry about it for now. I take Buspar now, which takes down the allday anxiety a bit. So maybe there is no idea to switch to klonopin now, I don't know.
I have hard time to get contact with with other students due to my social phobia, so that is still a reason, what do you think?

btw, does klonopin requires higher and higher doses each day to reach the same level of therapeutical effect as the day before? I know that's the case with diazepam, for me anyway.

supposedly klonopin is one of the less abusive
benzodiazepines. especially since you can dose
it twice a day and it stays in your body at a
steady level. This lowers the likehood of rebound
anxiety and the patient overkilling on the next
dose.

good luck,
john

hello again tensor...

i've been on klon since july and have taken an extra dose maybe 3 times when extremely upset and had to go to work (retail and deal with people). i don't find it addictive, it's just my medicine.
however, i started on .5 mg twice daily in july and have since doubled...i used to anxious when i forgot to take a dose, but i think that was mostly psychosomatic.

i've asked my pdoc for xanax but he is more in favor of klonopin--the addiction factor, you know. here in my area, xanax is sold as "xanabars"--$5 or so a pill...no one does that with klono...

you said that Buspar has reduced your anxiety so you're not sure whether or not you need the klon. all i can speak from is experience: prozac eased much of my anxiety, but klon really does the job (so far). i like the augmentation (along with neurontin and lamictal).

i don't think you'll require higher dosages "each day." i found the need to increase after 5 months, but everyone is different.

have you tried therapy at all?

Hi, and thanks for your answers.

Yes I've tried therapy, but that was for my panic disorder. It did help me lot, but without the pmeds it wouldn't have done me much. I belive the therapy for my social phobia/anxiety would be a psyc proffesional that puts me into situations which causes my fear and panic(?). That scares me and I firmly believe it's to no use without the proper medication.

Several here with problems similar to mine, have told me Klonopin is the answer. My next step now is to see my pdoc.
