It has been studied and found to be effective, as the SSRIs and Effexor. All of these are not 'perfect', they reduce the symptoms, but real remission is rare.
Nardil (a MAO inhibitor) is supposed to be more effective than the above options. So is Klonopin (which can be added to any of the ADs stated above).

Moclobemide MAOI/RIMA might be a better idea because its side-effect profile is more benign than the traditional MAOIs.
