Just curious as to what you're up to. Have you decided what med combo to try or are you still researching it? I find it easy to develop a rapport with other faceless, nameless people here, sometimes, & want to know how they're doing. I'm curious about your progress.
I received my new adrafinil 12 days ago & started taking it. I was trying real hard to be optimistic & convince myself that it would work the second time around, but I really figured it probably wouldn't. Well today, day 12, I woke up feeling a little different & as the day wore on, I knew it was for real. It's a different feeling than just a good day. There's a contentment - peace of soul - that comes with this, not like ADs or anything else gives me. I feel so gentle & calm deep inside, like who I really am has surfaced & pervades throughout. Any words to describe how I feel only trivialises it. Suffice to say, I'm truly content.
I've felt no need for Dexedrine today for focus or to stay alert & awake either. Did you give adrafinil/modafinil a try yet & if you did, how long have you been on it.

Hey IsoM,
So I have been on zoloft and klonopin for a few days now. Once I settle in at on about 100 mgs of zoloft, I think I will add either nortriptyline or Provigil. Although, I am very tempted to try adrafinil. I have been going over the past posts of yours, KregPark, Rick and others .... and reading on the net. The sense I get is that adrafinil is a little smoother than provigil .... but still provides energy and drive .... which is good with my anxiety. It is also cheaper too. What is your take on the adrafinil vs. provigil?
I also was thinking asking you how much does adrafinil add to your mood. If you are 100% with celexa and adrafinil .... what are you without adrafinil (0-99%)?
I also wanted to say I always enjoy reading your posts. You give very informed and sensible advice. And you are soooooooooo nice! Thanks.
Your Friend,
Spike

Thanks for answering, Spike. I didn't want to pry but wanted to know how you (& others) are doing. So does that mean you're noticing a bit of effect on your new med trial? (Probably far too soon yet, right?) Zoloft is pretty good for many but I'd vomit up my dose about 45 minutes later so I never had a chance to see if it did work. And klonopin is a good, tried & tested med. It would have to be the very rare individual it didn't help.
My take is that adrafinil *may* do more than modafinil alone. The reason being is that one of the main metabolites of adrafinil IS modafinil. So with adrafinil, I get the benefit of both modafinil & whatever the other active metabolite does. That may account for the fact adrafinil is used more as an AD in Europe than modafinil. On the other hand, the reasons might be entirely different - just a guess.
I'm going to need to see what I'm like in summer with adrafinil to give a full evaluation of my mood, but I'll hazard a guess now. In winter, my mood goes down a lot, but I don't want to increase my AD so I tough it out knowing I'll feel better as spring comes. My mood in summer is about 85%, in winter, it'll go down to maybe 50% with some days being better & some worse. I notice it takes about 3 days of sunny weather in winter to bring my mood up again.
With the adrafinil, it really is 100%. I caught myself, while watching a show on conjoined twins, thinking "aww, those babies are cute". As soon as I think babies are cute, I know I'm feeling good. This afternoon, I played a long list of various classical/Renaissance mp3s to listen to as I worked around the house. I'd have to stop frequently to dance & sway with the music. When music moves my heart & body like that, it confirms how good I feel.
Maybe after I've felt this good for a longer stretch, I'll get used to it & not feel so surprised. But it's still so new for me to feel this contented. It's like Christmas, Disneyland, a Mediterranean holiday, & the Nobel prize all rolled together. :)
I'm tackling memorising the Latin names for different plants. I knew a lot from before, but now with a proper functioning memory, I'll remember all the new names too.Who knows? I might be able to get along without Celexa even, but I'm not going to toss it away too soon. I want to wait & see first what summer is like.
Thank you for your kind remarks. I am a gentle person by nature & the adrafinil lets me be myselwithout having to force it. An older friend always said one could catch more flies with honey than vinegar (not that I'd knew why she wanted flies).

You are NEVER prying, you just happened to be a friendly-concerned-geniune individual. That is a rare combo these days .... well aleast in NYC. I was happy when I saw you post!

Not so with fruit flies! One summer, we had tons of them flying around in our kitchen. I put out a bowl of honey overnight, nothing happened. The next day, I tried a bowl of vinegar -- worked incredibly well. Erm, please don't think I'm insane now. Thanks.

P.S. - I wonder what would happen if I gave them some amphetamine. Or maybe LSD (those LSD-induced spider webs are neato). (Lame attempt to keep this post on PB.)

I don't think you're insane at all, (but this comes from someone who cheerfully considers herself insane!).
In fact, I'm delighted you told me this. Every summer, I get fruit flies in hordes & hordes. I've resorted to sneaking up on them & vacuuming them up (cute mental picture, right?) but they're difficult to get rid of. I'll use the vinegar suggestion. Was it plain white vinegar or cider or wine vinegar?
I have a fondness for the little bastards though. Our biology labs at university with fruit flies was so much fun - we had a blast doing those labs & whenever we went to another class, seemed to always have a few follow us about like pets. At home, I'd point out the differences between male & female to my sons using a strong magnifying glass & they'd just roll their eyes at me telling me the sex of flies didn't seem to hold the fascination for them as it did for me.
Not sure how meds would affect fruit flies. I know alcohol seems to have little effect. We used ether to anesthetise them at uni. Our lab instructor told us to be careful of how much we used. Otherwise, they'd OD on it & their wings would stick out at right angles to their body - a sure sign they were dead, not asleep. A fellow student got worried & asked what would happen to him if any spilt on his hands. I laughed & said his arms would stick out at right angles to his body & he'd keel over dead. I loved my biology labs!

Apple cider vinegar.
Too bad about not being able to experiment on them. Do you happen to know of any other insects that respond to chemicals? (Perhaps that's speciesist of me -- I AM a vegetarian, afterall).
